MNA Mourns Loss of Former Board of Directors Member Kathy Metzger, RN

The MNA is sad to report the passing of Kathy Metzger, RN, a great nurse, leader, advocate, mother and grandmother who truly made her mark on her profession and the organization she served for decades. Kathy worked for years at Brockton Hospital where she served as chair of her local bargaining unit and was on the picket line nearly every day of the nurses’ historic 104-day strike for safe staffing in 2001. She later served multiple terms on the MNA Board of Directors and was an active leader on her Central Labor Council. Kathy was a fierce advocate for nurses in Massachusetts, testifying at the State House on issues related to safe RN staffing and the issue of workplace violence. She fought for social justice for all, participating in Marches in Washington D..C. and she once volunteered to be arrested, using civil disobedience to draw attention and support for the Hyatt 100 hotel workers.
