The growth of investor-driven medicine poses a significant threat to patient care and nursing practice throughout the United States. This class will explore the significance of the “corporatization of healthcare” from three perspectives. First we will consider how corporate restructuring impacts bedside nursing and patient care in both in both the for-profit and non-profit world; second we will evaluate the affect of competitive business practices on local healthcare provision and access; and third will explore RN-led solutions to defend high standards of professional practice and quality patient care nation-wide.
