Haiti lost over 1,000 nurses and nursing students, along with its nursing school, in the January 12, 2010 earthquake. Attached is a list of supplies (things like tents etc) which NNU (RNRN)is organizing and shipping to Haiti to benefit Haitian nurses and their families. Partners in Health staff will meet the plane in Port au Prince and offload the supplies to be sure they land where intended. The supply list was developed by the Licensed Haitian Nurses Association (ANILH) and the Ministry of Health Nursing Direction (DSI/MSPP) and sent to PIH and MNA by Maude Duvilaire, RN, Director of Nursing in Haiti.
I’ve been acting as a liaison between Partners in Health (headquartered in Boston) and the NNU’s RNRN (RN Response Network).
To keep the costs of managing this all, and the costs of shipment down, we are NOT looking for donations of actual items on the list.
Cash donations that will be used to purchase the items are very welcome.
You can make checks for this relief work payable to: RNRN/NNU c/o California Nurses Foundation.
Mail to: 2000 Franklin St. Oakland, CA 94612 (see https://secure.ga1.org/05/rnrn_relief_fund)
Some of our MNA Region offices have asked me if they could/should solicit donations of supplies. Please feel free to encourage donations of cash to purchase the supplies on the list rather than solicit donations of items.
