RE “DON’T abandon ‘public option’ without benefits in return,’’ (Editorial, Aug. 23): I don’t understand how the Globe can write that Massachusetts has a long history of consumer-friendly regulation of the health insurance industry. Didn’t I read in the Globe recently that Massachusetts pays the highest premiums or close to the highest?
And to say that Massachusetts’ major insurers function pretty much as a public plan would is preposterous. Didn’t you report a 40 percent raise in premiums in recent years? Ann Eriksen, Revere
