Description: Nursing malpractice results from the failure to meet the ac- cepted standards of care. While claims look similar to medical malpractice by requiring harm to a patient, nurses are now ranked as the second most commonly named defendant in malpractice lawsuits. This program will address the potential sources of claims and common reasons for lawsuits, including medication administration error; failure to document, monitor, or assess; and lack of communication with the patient and/or family. Case examples will be presented and discussed.
