- The definition of "days" is determined by each contract as to whether they are calendar days or work days.
- A grievance should be filed on to the next Step if the employer fails to respond by the due date at the previous Step.
- The timeline for filing at Step 1 is measured from the date of the occurrence or from the date that the employee should have reasonably known about the circumstances giving rise to the grievance.
- Contracts often also provide for a meeting/hearing to take place between the parties at Steps 1-3. There usually is a time frame for these meetings to occur specified in the procedure.
