The following is a letter to the editor of the Daily News Tribune written by Rep. Peter Koutoujian.

Letter: Support Fernald nurses and patients

Thursday, April 13, 2006 - Updated: 12:05 AM EST

Regarding the March 31 Daily News Tribune editorial, "Time to resolve nurses contract at Fernald," I continue to lend my support to the nurses and the patients at the facility, as I did when I spoke at the State House rally last fall.

Surpassing 1,000 days without a contract prevents the recruitment and retention of the professional staff needed to adequately care for the disadvantaged and vulnerable residents, who now more than ever need the trusted advocacy of their nurses.

We must support the hard-working professional nurses who care for those who cannot care for themselves.

PETER J. KOUTOUJIAN, state representative, 10th Middlesex District, Waltham
