Annual Meeting Highlights
- 43 non-perishable items were collected for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Thank you for your support.
- A presentation was given by Boston Susan G. Komen for the Cure 3-Day. MNA members are encouraged to register as medical crew and medical volunteers. Refer to the Region 5 website for more details.
- MNA Labor School. Tom Breslin reports that member feedback indicates increased desire to attend daytime classes. Tailored training can be done at facilities, as recently done at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Suggestion made to provide more information on facility representatives handling drug and alcohol related issues with employer.
- Region 5 newsletter to be distributed quarterly, starting with April 2010. Bargaining unit chairs will be asked to submit a quarterly update about its facility. Send blurbs to Harriett Duggan. Archived newsletters will be posted online.
- MNA Email. Members encouraged to access MNA email. Contact the Membership Division if you need a temporary password or assistance in the signup process. In the near future, MNA email will be necessary to register online for MNA events/programs.
- Motion made, seconded and approved to grant funding for two AEDS, as outlined in the MNA AED for Life Campaign, for South Boston Neighborhood House and South Boston Neighborhood House Preschool.
- Discussed MNA Region 5 participation at Canton’s Block Party this fall. An estimated 5,000 people attend this event. Plan to reserve a table with the intent to educate the public on safe staffing and violence bill.
- Motion made, seconded and approved to purchase items for community outreach events. Consideration will be given to select items of recycled materials.
- Ann Marie McDonagh reviewed November and December 2009 financial statements. Sharon Gallagher of UBS will be invited to give yearly update at the 5.26.10 council meeting.
- Motion made, seconded and approved to sponsor a two-hour get-together at Annual Labor Leadership Summit on 3.24.
- Participants indicated continuing education programs of interest. Charlene Richardson will review selections and schedule programs of highest interest to be hosted by Region 5 in fall 2010 and winter/spring 2011.
- Brian Moloney gave overview of three bills filed by MNA and activities of MNA Lobby Day on 3.31.10.
- Those in attendance gave updates on their bargaining units.
- Motion made, seconded and approved to allocate funds to the Cambridge Hospital Bargaining Unit to celebrate the CHA nurses clinical ladder recipients and scholarship recipients at a recognition dinner.
- Regional Summit. Five members expressed interest in attending on behalf of Region 5.
- Next Meeting. A get-together is scheduled 3.24.10 at Leadership Summit. Details TBA onsite. Future meetings: May 26, July 21, September 22.
