STATEMENT ON HUMAN RIGHTS

“Nurses share the responsibility with all people for the resolution of problems affecting the human rights of the individual and the community at large.”   The Massachusetts Nurses Association believes that discrimination of persons in regards to social or economic status, personal attributes, sexual preferences, or the nature of health problems violates their human rights.  In light of this belief, nursing practice should respect these human rights by providing services with regard for human dignity and the uniqueness of the individual.

As well, the employment of nurses should respect the individuality of the nurse and be free of discrimination.

Based on this statement, the Association encourages individual members to actively and openly seek the end of the violation of human rights.
