Duties:
The STI staff Nurse is responsible for providing management and counseling to patients infected or suspected of having a sexually transmitted infection (STI) including HIV and Hepatitis. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as liaison between health center administration and STI Control Program.
2. Serves as resource person to other medical providers within the health center and the community for the management of STIs.
3. Work in concert with other staff to assist consumers in protecting their sexual health.
4. Develops policies for control of STI that are compatible with the STI program.
5. Provides in-service education of STIs.
6. Responsible for patient management (i.e., administering medication, organizing and completing medical records).
7. Performs specific procedures necessary to confirm the diagnosis of an STI.
8. Functions through the use of the Program protocols, which serve as guidelines for the management of the STI Program.
9. Provides education in the area of STIs including HIV to patients and to the private sector as required.
10. Communicates with other health care providers to assure proper management and disposition of cases.
11. Conducts interviews with people infected with a STI and refers to the disease intervention specialist (DIS) as appropriate.
12. Communicates with other staff members regarding epidemiological dispositions.
13. Other duties as required.
*Registered Nurse with current Massachusetts license.
*Two years nursing experience.
*BSN preferred.
*At least three (3) years experience in community nursing, ambulatory care or crisis care areas preferred.
*Experience with STD/HIV patient care preferred.
*Bilingual preferred.
