Why New Nurses Don’t Stay – New Study Says: “Unsafe Patient Assignments”

Below is a link to a new study that addressed the question about why newly graduated nurses are leaving the bedside, and why nurse executives believe they are not prepared for hospital practice.  The number one reason given by new nurses was, you guessed it, unsafe workloads.  What the study fails to state is the solution to this problem, which is providing these novice nurses with a safe work assignment and the staff around them with a safe workload to allow them to properly mentor new grads.  The problem is not the nurses entering the profession; the problem is the nurse executives who have no clue as to how to provide nurses and patients with safe conditions.
