Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren will be a featured speaker this week as hundreds of frontline registered nurses gather in Newton Oct. 5 – 7 for the 2011 Convention of Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United, the state’s largest union and professional association of registered nurses. The MNA/NNU was the first organization and union to endorse Warren’s candidacy in early September, citing her commitment to restore a basic standard of living for working people by creating financial remedies that hold Wall Street accountable while protecting those who live and work on Main Street USA.
The Warren appearance is part of a day of education and mobilization for frontline nurses from all corners of the Commonwealth, who will be gathering to learn more about the growing financial crisis and its impact on the patients and the communities nurses serve every day. The MNA/NNU has recently launched a “Main Street Contract” campaign, calling for a tax on Wall Street financial speculation to provide revenue for Main Street reforms, including jobs at living wages, quality education, guaranteed health care for all, and freedom from hunger, homelessness, and retirement insecurity.
