The nurses at the Baystate Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice (BVNAH) in Springfield have been negotiating for a successor agreement for over one year. Baystate seeks to basically take away collective bargaining rights on a number of issues – including health insurance and attendance policy (they just recently backed down on a similar stance on wages). However, Management is now threatening to declare impasse at BVNAH, but has not done so to date. The nurses at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center (BFMC) in Greenfield are also in the midst of bargaining for a successor agreement.
The Baystate Medical Center which is the parent outfit (but a separate entity from the BVNAH and BFMC) is dedicating their new $251 million “Hospital of the Future” Heart and Vascular Center in Springfield on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 10:00 AM. The MNA will be having an informational picket at that high-profile event. The local labor community and Jobs with Justice as well as community groups will be joining us.
There will be a bus leaving Canton to attend this event and show support to the nurses. The bus will leave Canton on Tuesday, Feb. 28th at 7am and will then stop in Worcester at Exit 10 A (Rte 146 and Rte 20) at 8:15 to pick up nurses from that area.
Bus will be leaving Springfield at 11am for the return trip.
