MetroWest Medical Center/Leonard Morse Hospital Nurses to Hold Food Drive to Support Millis Food Pantry

MILLIS, MA — The registered nurses from the Leonard Morse Hospital campus of MetroWest Medical Center, who are members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United (MNA/NNU), will be holding a Food Drive to support the Millis Food Pantry on Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Roche Bros. Supermarket, located at 6 Milliston Road in Millis.

“As nurses we understand the importance of good nutrition for families struggling in these tough economic times, and particularly during the summer months when children aren’t in school and do not have access to school lunches,” said Lynn Shaw, co-chair of the MNA/Leonard Morse nurses’ local bargaining unit. “The nurses want to do what they can to support the families in our community as summer winds down and children are headed back to school.”
Food collected will benefit the Millis Food Pantry. “The food pantry staff has let us know the items that are most in demand and we hope the good people of our local community will help us stock the food pantry shelves with those items.” said Kevin Rousseau RN, also a bargaining unit member who lives in Millis.
Specific foods sought by the food pantries include: Canned Tuna, Pasta Sauce, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal, Juice (Cans/Bottles), Coffee, Canned Fruit (or snack packs), Canned Vegetables (especially corn), Mac n’Cheese, Household Items – Dish Soap/Laundry Detergent/Toilet Paper /Paper Towels, Personal Care Items – Shampoo/Soap/Toothpaste. Please consider purchasing these items and dropping them off at Roche Brothers on Saturday, August 4 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The food drive by the Leonard Morse Hospital nurses is one in a series of similar events and community outreach projects being organized across the county by the MNA/NNU in connection with their Main Street Contract campaign, an effort to address the broader health and human service needs of Americans impacted by the growing economic crisis.
