My Child has to go to the Hospital and

I’m Concerned   for his Safety

Nurses are being forced to care for too many patients

When my child is in day care, there is a limit to the number of children a caregiver is assigned. It’s regulated by law. That’s not true in the hospital. When my child goes to the hospital, there is no limit to the number of patients assigned to his nurse. What’s wrong with this picture?

Hospital administrators are forcing nurses to care for too many patients at once and patients are suffering the consequences in the form of preventable errors, avoidable complications, longer hospital stays and readmissions.

A safe limit on a nurse’s assignment protects patients

Legislators on Beacon Hill are debating two bills that offer very different solutions to this problem. Massachusetts nurses, along with 103 leading health care and consumer groups, are sponsoring House Bill 2663 to set a safe limit on the number of patients a nurse is assigned at one time. The hospital administrators’ bill sets no limit on the number of patients a nurse is assigned.

You can help nurses protect your children and all patients. Please call 617.722.2000 and ask your legislator to support the nurses’ bill, House 2663.
