Brockton Clergy Host Candlelight Prayer Vigil on July 17th at 7:30 p.m. To Support a Just Resolution to Brockton Hospital Nurses' Strike

The non-partisan event will originate a few blocks from the hospital at the Eastway Shopping Center parking lot, where clergy will conduct a prayer service. The event will culminate with a silent candlelight walk from the shopping center to and around the Brockton Hospital.

Event Takes Place on Day 54 of the Strike

WHAT: Hundreds of residents from Greater Brockton, as well as concerned citizens and officials from throughout the Commonwealth are expected to attend a Candlelight Prayer Vigil To Support a Just Resolution to the Brockton Hospital Nurses' Strike, which is being sponsored by the Brockton Clergy Association and the Massachusetts Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice.

Intended to be a non-partisan event, the vigil, which will be held on the 54th day of the strike, will include songs and prayers for a resolution to the ongoing nurses' strike at Brockton Hospital. Concerned about the deep divides which have developed throughout the Greater Brockton community, the clergy hope that uniting in prayer will help to bring the community together. It is hoped that uniting in prayer will help both sides return to the negotiating table in good faith until a resolution to the contract dispute is agreed upon. All members of the community, including members of the hospital administration and the nurses union, are invited to attend this prayerful event.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Prayer Service will be held at the Eastway Shopping Center, 587 Centre St., Brockton; followed by a Candlelight Walk to and around Brockton Hospital, which is located a few blocks away at 680 Centre St.

WHO: Local clergy from the Brockton Clergy Association will officiate, with participation from hundreds of residents and other interested parties, including many of the striking nurses.

CONTACT: Rev. Heather M. Kinnear of Christ Congregational Church and a member of the Brockton Clergy Association is the coordinator and principle contact for the event. She can be reached at 508.586.3022.
