It's Time to Let the Board of Trustees Know That They Too Are
Accountable for the Brockton Nurses Strike
Below is a listing of the Board, with their addresses. It's time
to engage them in this process and request their support in bringing
this strike to a close.
The Board of Trustees has ultimate oversight authority for this
community hospital. They need to know that patients are suffering,
nurses are suffering and the community is suffering because this
hospital refuses to bargain in good faith with the nurses to provide
a fair settlement that includes a commitment to staff the hospital
safely. They need to know that it is not safe to expect nurses
to work hours of overtime against their will to provide care to
patients.
They need to know that the nurses are on strike to protect their
patients and this community from a continuation of hospital practices
and staffing patterns that have placed, and will continue to place,
patients lives in jeopardy unless the nurses' are provided the
protections they are asking for.
They need to know that Brockton Administration is wasting millions
of dollars to hire replacement nurses with no connection to this
community to prolong a strike over the hospital's demand to have
the right to use tired and overworked nurses to deliver care to
patients. They are supporting a management position that goes against
credible nursing research that clearly demonstrates that low staffing
and mandatory overtime leads to patient complications, medication
errors and increased patient mortality.
They need to know that the only people in this community supporting
the management of Brockton Hospital is the management of Brockton
Hospital. They need to know that members of the Board of Trustees
are responsible to this community and ultimately must answer for
the impact of the hospital's continuation of this strike.
We need to tell them to talk with the nurses, get
the facts, listen to their positions, and then to do what they
can to convince Brockton
Hospital management to bring the "real" nurses back into the facility
so that patients can receive safe, quality care.
