Save the date for Lobby Day 2001
The MNA Congress on Health Policy & Legislation has set the date
for the MNA’s highly popular and important “Nurses Lobby Day” at the Massachusetts
State House. Lobby Day 2001 will be held on Thursday, March 9 from 8:30
a.m. to noon.
DATE: Thursday, March 8, 2001
TIME: 8:30 a.m. to noon.
PLACE: Massachusetts State House
This event, which draws hundreds of nurses and nursing students from throughout
the commonwealth, is designed to educate nurses about the legislative process,
allow legislators an opportunity to speak to our members, and most important
of all, provides an opportunity for nurses to visit their own legislators
to promote important nursing legislation.
This year’s program is still being developed, but the Congress has already
determined that the main focus of the day will be on MNA efforts to pass
legislation related to safe staffing, the collection of nurse-sensitive
data to demonstrate the need for safe staffing, the prevention of workplace
violence against nurses, bills to address the nursing shortage and the
Massachusetts Health Care Trust bill.
This is every nurses opportunity to speak directly to those who have
the power to address the problems nurses face every day in their practice.
You need to be there. For more information, visit the MNA web site at www.massnurses.org
or call the MNA department of legislation and government affairs at 800-882-2056

Nursing success stories needed
In preparation for the 2001 Nurses Lobby Day at the State House, the
MNA Congress on Health Policy and Legislation is looking for individual
nurse success stories in using the political system. As part of their lobby
day program, they want to highlight those nurses who have made a change
in their communities using a grassroots effort and the political arena.
If you have such a story to share, contact the MNA Department of Legislation
and Government Affairs at 800-882-2056 x727; email mcampbell@mnarn.org
