NursePLAN Convention events

NursePLAN, the political action committee of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, has several events scheduled during tte MNA convention. Please plan to join us for as many of these programs as your schedule allows. NursePLAN raises money to support candidates for state office that will help advance nursing's agenda on Beacon Hill.

Proposed bylaw change to be voted at annual breakfast meeting

  • NursePLAN is proposing a bylaw change to be voted upon during the annual breakfast meeting.
  • Bylaws at Article VII Section 2: Quorum
"At Board meetings, a majority of the Board of Directors including the Chairperson and six members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business" is the current reading.

The proposed change is to include "or Vice Chairperson" after the word "Chairperson".

Rationale: This makes Section 2 regarding a quorum consistent with Section 1 and also allows for the transaction of business if the Chair is unable to be present at every meeting. This still ensures a majority of Board members and elected positions presence for the business of NursePLAN to be conducted.

All MNA members are welcome to participate in NursePLAN and to attend the annual breakfast meeting, which will be held during the MNA Convention at 7 a.m. on Nov. 10 at the World Trade Center in Boston.

Single payer guest speaker for NursePLAN annual breakfast

Massachusetts legislator and a supporter of nursing issues Senator Robert Travaglini, who will serve as the Annual NursePLAN Breakfast Guest Lecturer.

The prospects for single payer health care in Massachusetts will be addressed by state Sen. Robert Travaglini, who will serve as the NursePLAN annual breakfast guest lecturer.

Senator Travaglini is a Democrat from East Boston and Cambridge. He is the majority whip and has been a consistent supporter of MNA and MNA's issues for years.

He is a Frank M. Hynes Award recipient and is the leading senator responsible for the passage of third party reimbursement for nurse practitioners.

Now, as a sponsor of legislation to secure a single payer health care system in Massachusetts, he will speak to the MNA membership at the NursePLAN annual breakfast meeting.

Plan on attending this very important discussion.

The breakfast will be held on Nov. 10 at the MNA Convention at the World Trade Center, Boston.

Book sale as NursePLAN fundraiser at Convention

Each year, NursePLAN has a major fund raising event during the MNA Convenient. This year, NursePLAN has a novel and fun way to encourage members to support their powerful political action committee and have fun too.

NursePLAN is hosting a "Book Sale." But in traditional NuresPLAN fashion, this is no ordinary book sale. Besides interesting and needed books, you will also find the items you will need as extra special Christmas, birthday and special occasion presents. Hardcover, coffee table and pocket books will be on sale at the NursePLAN fundraising booth

So bring your Christmas gift list and your checkbook. You'll take a little pressure off your shopping stress while you contribute to NursePLAN, MNA's political action committee.
