Latest News...St. Vincent's Hospital Nurses
Negotiations/Strike Update
- Last Friday, after a fruitless round of contract
negotiations with Tenet/St. Vincent Hospital administration, the
nurses issued an official notice to strike as of March 31, 2000
at 6 a.m.
- As a result, the hospital has canceled all events
promoting the opening of the new Worcester Medical Center.
The nurses have canceled picketing demonstrations for those events,
which were scheduled for March 23rd and 25th.
- The hospital continues to demand the right to
unilaterally change nurses' hours of work or shift, to send nurses
home when census is low, to mandate overtime without restrictions
when staffing is insufficient, and they are refusing to allow
nurses an agency shop union arrangement.
- The nurses head back to the negotiating table
on March 24th.
- If a settlement is not reached, the nurses will
hold a rally on March 30th from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Vernon Hill
American Legion Post on Providence Street in Worcester.
Please join us to support the nurses as they prepare to strike.
- Strike Picket lines will be established beginning
at 6 a.m. on March 31st at both the St. Vincent's Hospital and
the new Worcester Medical Center, and will run 24/7.
- A strike office is open and will operate 24
hours a day throughout the strike. The office is located
at the Carpenters Union Building at 29 Endicott Street in Worcester.
Phone numbers at the office are 508.792.2181 or 508.792.2174.
