Campaign for BORN Reform Launches Petition Drive for Full Hearing of Adams’ Complaint

The planning committee for MNA Campaign for BORN Reform is issuing a call for nursing signatures to a petition the campaign will deliver to every member of the Board of Registration in Nursing prior to their next meeting, which is scheduled on Jan. 12, 2000. This is also the date the BORN announced at its last meeting (with a BORN Reform Campaign demonstration going on outside) that it would issue its ruling on whether to pursue a complaint filed by Barry Adams against his former nurse administrator. (See related stories on this page).

The petition calls upon the full Board of Registration in Nursing to: “participate in a full hearing of the two Complaints filed by Barry Adams in their entirety, which must include each of the charges contained in the complaints. Our petition rests with a desire to asure that the BORN exercises its enforcement authority for all licensed nurses – nursing administrators/managers as well as staff nurses – so that all are held fully and fairly accountable for their practice.”

Please circulate the petition among your colleagues. We are looking for each petitioner to generate at least 10 signatures prior to Dec. 10, 1999. Once you have completed your petition, mail or fax it back to David Schildmeier at the MNA, 340 Turnpike St., Canton, MA 02021; fax to 781-821-4445.

Or call Phyllis Kleingardner at the MNA Department of Communications to receive a faxed copy of the petition, 800.882.2056 x728.
