 Elizabeth Kandel Englander,PhD

Elizabeth Kandel Englander,PhD is a professor of Psychology and the founder and Director of the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center at Bridgewater State College, a Center which delivers antiviolence and anti-bullying programs, resources, and research for the state of Massachusetts. She is a nationally recognized expert in the area of bullying and cyberbullying, childhood causes of violence and aggression, child development, and characteristics of juvenile and adult violent offenders.

 
 Elizabeth Slater, PhD
Elizabeth Slater, PhD is a psychologist in private practice in Wayland, MA as well as a faculty member at the Boston Institute for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Slater serves on the Executive Committee for SOFAR, (Strategic Outreach to Families of All Reservists) a program of the Psychoanalytic Couple and Family Institute of New England. In collaboration with Muriel Weckstein, MA, Dr. Slater will address the impact of both military deployment and the soldier’s return on the family.
 
 Muriel Weckstein, MA
Muriel Weckstein, MA is a licensed psychologist currently in private practice, working with both children and adults. She has been affiliated with Harvard University for almost two decades, providing supervision of interns and residents training at Boston teaching hospitals. Ms. Weckstein’s research includes both inservice training for school personnel and school mental health consultation. In collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth Slater, Ms. Weckstein will address the impact of both military deployment and the soldier's return on the family.

 Program Descriptions

The Marc Pediatrics Project: collaborating to improve responses to bullying situations
The occurrence of bullying in schools has risen dramatically in recent years. The rate of victimization is alarming. This program will enhance the identification of and outreach to at-risk youths by increasing the school nurses’ knowledge of bullying and cyberbullying in addition to resources that are available.

The Invisible Casualties of War at Home- The Impact on School-aged Children
Military deployment involves the soldier and the family, affecting many aspects of life, including school. This program will enable the school nurse to assess the impact of deployment and the soldier’s return on the school-aged child and to identify interventions to be utilized in providing care to the student.

Registration:. Registration will be processed on a space available basis. There is a fee of $95 for all non-MNA members which is nonrefundable. If you do not attend the program the fee will NOT be refunded. Requests for refunds will not be honored within the 14-day period of the program date.

Lunch: a light lunch will be provided to all attendees.  
 
Contact Hours: Continuing nursing education contact hours will be awarded by the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

To successfully complete a program and receive contact hours, you must: 1) sign in, 2) be present for the entire time period of the session and 3) complete and submit the evaluation.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
